Men's Cologne Recipe
This recipe makes a refreshing, masculine cologne for men.
Ingredients:
- 3.5 oz. High Proof Vodka or Perfumer's Slcohol.
- 22 drops Bergamot, Mandarin or 15 drops Lime
- 15 drops Patchouli
- 5 drops Bay Laurel
- 3 drops Black Pepper or Ginger
- 5 drops Oakmoss Absolute or 2-3 drops Vetiver
- 1-2 drops of Neroli (optional)
Directions: Add 3.5 oz. high proof vodka or perfumer's alcohol to a clean, sterile 4 oz. glass bottle. It is preferable if the bottle has a sprayer top. Add the oils. Shake well. Allow the cologne to rest for several days, shaking the bottle 1-2 times a day. This will allow the oils to blend and mellow out prior to first use.
You can try substituting some of the alcohol for water if you have a sensitivity to alcohol or simply prefer to use less.
Experiment by changing the essential oils that you include in this flexible recipe. Be sure to follow all safety guidelines and check the contraindications for each essential oil prior to using them in your recipes. Refer to AromaWeb's Aromatic Blending Guide for ideas on how to create the perfect cologne fragrance for yourself.
To Use: Shake the cologne well prior to each use and apply as you would other colognes. Play it safe and for a few days after the cologne is ready for use, only apply it to a small area inside your forearm. This is similar to a "skin patch test" and helps ensure that you don't have an irritation to any of the oils. It is important that you shake the cologne before each use because essential oils do not fully dissolve in alcohol. Alcohol still contains some water. The higher the proof of vodka that you use, the more alcohol concentration the vodka has. If you forget to shake the cologne prior to each use, the essential oils will not remain evenly distrubted each time you spray, and you risk having applications where too high of an essential oil concentration disperses onto your skin.
